The 5th edition of Winelovers Wine Awards broke another record: 1,161 entries were received from 15 countries. 57 jury members evaluated the wines from 19 countries. Now let us present the most beautiful examples of the most entered varieties.
 

– The most white entries: Furmint (56 entries)
– The second most white entries: Olaszrizling (43 entries)
– The most red entries: Kékfrankos (47 entries)
 
Best of Furmint: Szűcs Patócs 2022, Tokaj, Hungary

The most entered variety is Furmint, a highly versatile grape variety. The most well-known manifestation of Furmint is part of the blend of a Tokaji Aszú wines, though with the decrease of the consumption of sweet wines, the significance of dry Furmint wines increased.
Szűcs Pincészet (Szűcs Winery) was founded by Ferenc Szűcs, his first bottled wine was released in 2012. The estate owns 9 hectares in the village of Tállya. Patócs is a first class, historic vineyard with volcanic rhyolite tuff and andesite. 2022 is the first vintage of this wine, and only 712 bottles were made. Lovers of mineral wines should hurry up to get the last bottles! Szűcs winery has received 3 gold medals and 2 silver medals at the 5th WWA.

Best of Olaszrizling: Kreinbacher Olaszrizling Selection 2022, Somló, Hungary

The volcanic Somló is part of the Balaton broader wine region, where Olaszrizling has a special significance. Kreinbacher is estate is first and foremost famous for its bottle fermented sparkling wines – at the 5th edition of WWA Kreinbacher won 2 gold medals with sparkling wines beside this gold medal (plus a silver and a bronze). The Best of Olaszrizling wine was made of selected bunches from an organic vineyard. After spontaneous fermentation, the wine aged in French and Hungarian oak for 10 months.

Best of Kékfrankos: Steigler Spern Steiner Bio Kékfrankos 2022, Sopron, Hungary

Steigler Cellar is located in Sopron, in the “capital of Kékfrankos”, and they take their destiny seriously. The range consists of a Classic Kékfrankos, three single vineyard wines (Spern Steiner, Steiger and Steinhaufen), a Premium Kékfrankos (the “super blend” of the three single vineyard wines), a rosé, a rosé pet-nat, a white Kékfrankos called Paradox and a traditional method sparkling wine, still ageing on the lees.
The Best Kékfrankos of Winelovers Wine Awards 2026 is Steigler Spern Steiner 2022.
The cellar of the organic estate is in located in the centre of the charming city of Sopron, well worth a visit!

Plus 1: Pelle Pezsgő Magnum 2020, Tokaj

As we wrote above, Furmint is a versatile grape variety, and recently this statement is more and more proven by outstanding, bottle fermented sparkling wines. Pelle Pince (Pelle Cellar) is a small family estate in the village of Mád, they have cultivated 4.9 hectares since 2007. This magnum sparkling is in the brut nature category, which is not that common in Hungary. But here is the fact: Furmint does not need the mask of the dosage, it is beautiful in itself. The magnum received 88 scores, and received silver medal. Besides this silver, Pelle has collected 4 gold medals!
