Caroline Gilby is a Master of Wine with a doctorate in plant sciences. Hungarian wine continues to be a passion of hers, since first visiting the country in the early 1990s as a wine buyer. She writes and speaks about Hungary regularly, contributing to Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book, Sotheby’s Wine Encyclopaedia, Oxford Companion to Wine, Decanter, Jancisrobinson.com, Meininger’s, Revija Vino and others. She is also panel chair at Decanter World Wine Awards. In 2018, Caroline was the first foreigner to be awarded “Friend of Hungarian Winemakers” and she is a member of the Confrérie of Tokaj. In 2022, she was awarded the title of “Best Wine Personality” by Balkan International Wine Competition.
